Spring Training 2018: 5 New Phoenix Area Hotspots to Try
As we round out the year and head into 2018, our MLB clients are in full swing securing their Spring Training rentals for the upcoming Arizona Cactus League and Florida Grapefruit League.
While most Americans are looking at the late winter/early spring season expecting to be donning jackets, boots, and snow tires, our MLB clients get to head for sunnier weather in Arizona and Florida.
The following is the first in a series of what new hot spots you can expect in the Phoenix area, and West Palm Beach/Jupiter area, whether you are heading to Spring Training in Florida or in Arizona this year. Spring Training 2018 will arrive before we know it and we are looking so forward to trying out the new restaurants and attractions in the Phoenix area this year.
FIVE NEW THINGS TO TRY IN PHOENIX FOR SPRING TRAINING 2018:
Hand Cut Burgers & Chophouse recently celebrated its one-year anniversary. Since the restaurant opened its doors in October 2016, it’s been serving up local eats, cold brews and craft cocktails. The restaurant is conveniently located at the Scottsdale Waterfront, adjacent to Fashion Square Mall. It’s a perfect place to enjoy half-priced appetizers during happy hour or enjoy a more elegant dinner featuring locally sourced, all natural steaks and chops.
For those who occasionally have difficulty sifting through pages of options on a dinner menu, Sel is the perfect place to enjoy dinner. The new fine-dining restaurant in Scottsdale offers a four-course prex fixe dinner, with a variety of options to choose from, without overwhelming the diners. Some might even be familiar with the chef/owner, Branden Levine, as he has previously appeared on the Food Network’s “Beat Booby Flay” and “Chef Wanted with Anne Burrell.”
Everyone knows that many Mexican food restaurants in the country boast the same items with the same Americanized flare. While this is great when you’re craving a #7 combo with a beef taco, cheese enchilada with rice and beans, Frank and Lupe’s Restaurant has some of the best, authentic Mexican cuisine in the city. While this Scottsdale staple is not as new as the restaurants featured above – in fact, they’ve been in business for over 25 years – the family-owned restaurant proudly opened a new location in Chandler. This said, if you’re on the north side of town, we suggest you check out the tried and true location in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale. The outdoor patio will have you feeling like you’ve escaped from the U.S. desert to Mexico’s and the happy hour margarita will be the highlight of any spring afternoon.
Whether you’re looking for something to do with the kids or with your significant other, Scottsdale new OdySea Aquarium is a must-see. The new aquarium features over 50 exhibits, 30,000 animals and 500 species. Make a day trip out of the adventure and dine in one of the facilities 20 restaurants. The most recent attraction includes a $3 million expansion to include 50 life-size animatronic dinosaurs. The 35-acrea oasis in the desert also boasts two other live animal attractions, Butterfly Wonderland and Dolphinaris.
One of Scottsdale’s newest attractions allows fly above ground and get a skydiving rush - without jumping out of a plane. iFly Phoenix uses the latest in vertical tunnel technology to give people the experience of flying in a safe, controlled environment. The cost is also a fraction of the cost of the traditional skydiving experience, which can often cost hundreds of dollars. iFly charges about $27-$35 per flight, and offers packages that include training, equipment, personalized instruction and at least two flights. Anyone in good health from ages three and up can give this attraction a whirl. It’s also a great place to host a party for people of all ages.
No matter what team you’re playing for or supporting, there will be plenty of peanuts, hot dogs and activities to enjoy this spring training season. With new restaurants and attractions popping up all over Phoenix, there’s no doubt you’ll have plenty to do come spring.
