I'm going to go ahead and get this out of the way: Yes, my name is Sabrina and yes, this blog post is about a witch.

Moms and Dads, how many of you are dreading the mountain of Halloween candy that your little ghosts and goblins are going to be briging home on Monday night?
For our family in particular, Halloween means one thing: food dye and food allergies. (There are dozens of health reasons that make the candy and sugar on Halloween scarier than some of the spookiest costumes, but we'll save those for another blog.)

Our solution for the annual sugar fest is a tradition called the Switch Witch. We LOVE her!
After all the Halloween fun and candy collection is over, my daughter puts all of her candy in a bag and leaves it on our doorstep before she goes to bed. Then after she's asleep, the Switch Witch takes all of her candy and replaces it with a non-candy gift. (Last year she got cowgirl boots!)
There are several local dentists who participate in Halloween Candy Buy Back events at their offices
or you can bring you unopened candy to our office and we will donate it for you!

We love Operation Gratitude, who put together care packages for our veterans, active duty military personnel and new recruits. From their website:
"Operation Gratitude annually sends 100,000+ care packages filled with snacks, entertainment, hygiene and hand-made items and personal letters of appreciation addressed to New Recruits, Veterans, First Responders, Wounded Warriors, Care Givers and to individually named U.S. Service Members deployed in hostile regions"
The Switch Witch has been such a fun tradition in our home and I hope this gives you a great idea for your kids as well.
Happy Halloween!!
